Graduate Certificate in Teaching Sociology

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Sociology will be offered to graduate students enrolled in the Masters Program in Sociology, and others who hold a BA in sociology or a closely-related field, who are interested in practical training in the process of teaching sociology at the university level.
Dr. Edwardo Portillos is the coordinator of the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Sociology.
General Requirements
- To begin the certificate program, students are required to submit the Teaching Sociology Certificate Letter of Intent.
- A minimum grade of 3.3 is required for each course applied toward the certificate.
- Minimum requirement for completion: four courses, for a total of twelve credits.
- To complete the certificate program, students are required to submit the Teaching Sociology Certificate Application, a transcript, and a five-page, typewritten self-statement. This should include the student’s teaching philosophy and reflections related to teaching as a result of program participation.
Prior to completion of a certificate audit, the certificate will be mailed to its recipient.
