Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Letters, Arts & Sciences

IMPORTANT: UCCS does not have a veterinary medicine program. Pre-Veterinary Medicine Prep is not a major or minor but a listing of requisite courses and recommendations needed to be eligible for admission to CSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences in Ft. Collins, CO. Other schools may have different requirements, so students should check admissions requirements for all schools to which they plan on applying.

NOTE: Completion of requisite coursework does not guarantee acceptance into any professional degree.

For more information on the pre-professional program, contact the Pre-Health advisor:

Bev Kratzer (719) 255-3745, bkratzer@uccs.edu

Pre-professional options offered at UCCS prepare students for candidacy into professional programs offered at other facilities. Well-prepared, highly motivated students may be able to complete all of the prerequisites within two years, although most successful applicants have completed four years of college. Students in the pre-veterinary medicine program are advised to major in general biology through the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences. Note: Completion of requisite coursework does not guarantee acceptance into any professional degree.

Admission Requirements

Note:

Many courses have prerequisites that fall outside of this list; be sure to check the catalog for course details. Upper-division science courses should be more current than 3-5 years. All requisite coursework should be completed with a grade of “C-” or better. Since most pre-veterinary medicine students will graduate before entering veterinary school, it will be necessary to complete an academic major and other College of Letters, Arts & Sciences degree requirements.

While no minimum number of animal care contact hours is required, it is highly recommended to have some animal care as well as experience volunteering with a vet prior to application.
