ENGL 3230 - Scribbling Women: American Women Writers Before 1924

“Scribbling women” is how Nathaniel Hawthorne dismissively referred to American women writers. This course considers American women writers before all women, including indigenous women, were fully enfranchised citizens. Foregrounds inclusivity and contexts before 1924. Topics, authors, and genres may vary. Approved for Compass Curriculum: Inclusiveness-Diversity & Power Dynamics (Local). Prer., ENGL 1310 and ENGL 1410 or equivalents.
