FR 3200 - Haitian Art History: History, Religion and Politics3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)
Class content will cover the visual arts of Haiti where iconography relies heavily on history, politics and the Vodou religion. Students will have a better understanding of Haiti’s complex history with the United States including past and present situations. Class objectives include discourse about French and Haitian Creole, the slave trade, the unique aspects of Haitian Vodou and the monumental significance of the Haitian Revolution, the only successful slave revolt in history. Approved for Compass Curriculum: Inclusiveness-Diversity & Power Dynamics (Global). Prer., FR 2120 or equivalent.
