NURS 1230 - Foundations of Nursing Practice3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)
Introduces students to the profession including a survey of the knowledge necessary to the discipline, the context of practice, and the societal foundations for practice. Course content and activities provide beginning socialization as a member of the profession including socialization to professional education and the curriculum of Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Professional values and personal knowing are examined. Trends in health care legislation, economics, policy, and the Institute of Medicine core competencies for health care professionals are explored. A beginning personal philosophy of nursing is developed. Approved for Compass Curriculum requirement: Inclusiveness (Global/Diversity). Prer., Nursing majors only.
