CJ 3400 - Introduction to Homeland Security3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)
This course examines the scope of the homeland security enterprise in the United States. Emphasis is placed on homeland security, legislative and regulatory authority, emergency management, and the structure and organization of the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, the course covers how the Department of Homeland Security fits into security initiatives in the United States and operates in conjunction with the Department of Defense, Department of State, and various intelligence and law enforcement agencies on the local, state, and federal levels. Also examined are current and possible future threats such as terrorism, natural disasters, critical infrastructure protection, environmental security, and intelligence, among others.
