Pre-Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a health profession whose practitioners are involved in the treatment of abnormalities of the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems. Persons who are disabled as a result of pain, disease, injury or developmental delay are evaluated by a physical therapist who then plans and administers an appropriate therapeutic program. Rehabilitation of individuals with cardiac or pulmonary disease also involves physical therapy in the recovery process. The physical therapy program at the University of Colorado is a Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum.

Admission Requirements

A bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in a field other than physical therapy must be completed prior to matriculation into the professional program; the degree should include the following course work:

Required courses:

6 hours of Psychology:

PSY 3280 - Abnormal Psychology

and

PSY 3620 - Developmental Psychology

highly recommended (PSY 1000 will not be accepted.)

3 hours of Mathematics:

MATH 1350 - Calculus I

3 hours of statistics (one from the following):

3 additional credit hours upper division BIOL:

BIOL 3020 - Cell Biology

Note:

If prerequisite science courses are older than five years, an additional 6 hours of upper division science course work must be completed.
