  • Students who wish to obtain licensure as a Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) must complete ACCT 4610 (auditing) to be eligible to sit for the CPA examination.  Also, CPA eligibility requirements are different depending on the state of licensure.  In Colorado, for example, individuals are eligible to sit for the CPA exam and for licensure after completing 120 semester hours, including 27 hours of accounting.  However, many states other than Colorado now require a minimum of 150 hours to be eligible to take the CPA examination and obtain licensure.  Students should refer to the individual state educational requirements for more information of CPA examination eligibility and on licensure.

Generally speaking, the courses that best prepare students to sit for the CPA exam are as follows: ACCT 4210, ACCT 4220, ACCT 4410, and ACCT 4610.  Make sure you check with each state’s CPA board for all CPA requirements.
