History and Political Science Double Major

The History and Political Science double major requires 30 credit hours completed from each department with grades of C or better. History requires 18 hours of upper-division (3000+ level) course work, while Political Science requires 21 upper-division hours.
Students must complete at least one Summit course between the two majors. Summit options are HIST 4990, PSC 4020, PSC 4210, OR PSC 4470.
History and Political Science usually require 36 credit hours for the major, but the departments waive 6 credit hours each for double majors.

History Double Major Course Requirements
Students double majoring in History and Political Science need 30 credit hours of History course work with grades of C or better. A maximum of 54 hours of History courses can apply to the bachelor’s degree. At least 18 of the 30 hours must be upper-division (3000+ level) courses.
Historical Survey Courses
Complete two courses from each of the following categories (4 courses/12 credits).
Histories of the U.S. and Europe
Global Histories and Histories of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East
Upper-Division Global History Courses
Complete two courses from the following list (2 courses/6 credits):
Upper-Division History Electives
- Complete 12 credit hours of upper-division (3000+ level) History electives (4 courses/12 credits).
History Summit Course
Students must complete one Summit course for the double major, but may choose to take it from either the History or Political Science department. The Summit course will count as an upper-division elective for the major in which it is taken.

, is the History department’s Summit course, and is done under the close supervision of a regular faculty member or instructor. Students will prepare a full-length (usually 25-30 pages) essay on a selected topic in History, relying heavily on original or primary sources. Please see the Guide to History 4990 Senior Thesis for further details, including a schedule of topics and instructors.

- Students must complete 9 credit hours of History course work at UCCS before taking HIST 4990.
Political Science Double Major Course Requirements
Students double majoring in History and Political Science need 30 credit hours of Political Science course work with grades of C or better. A maximum of 54 hours of Political Science courses can apply to the bachelor’s degree. At least 21 of the 30 hours must be upper-division (3000+ level) courses.

American Political Institutions and Behavior Track
Complete the following required courses (6 courses/18 credits):
Complete three courses from the following expandable lists (3 courses/9 credits).
Complete an additional 3 hours of PSC elective courses to meet total and upper-division requirements for the major (1 course/3 credits).
Global Politics Track
Complete the following required courses (7 courses/21 hours):
Complete three courses from the following expandable list (3 courses/9 hours).
Public Administration, Policy and Law Track
Complete the following required courses:
Complete three courses from the following expandable list (3 courses/9 hours).
Complete an additional 3 hours of PSC elective courses to meet total and upper-division requirements for the major (1 course,3 credits).
Political Science Summit Course
Students must complete one Summit course for the double major, but may choose to take it from either the History or Political Science department. The Summit course will count as an upper-division elective for the major in which it is taken.
