Economics, BA

A Bachelor of Arts in Economics prepares students for a wide range of employment opportunities in both the public and private sector.  Further, an undergraduate degree in economics provides excellent preparation for graduate studies in law and business. Interested students are encouraged to contact the department advisor or the department chair for more information. Additional information and resources are available on the department website

Learning Outcomes, Economics, BA

  • Students should be able to identify and interpret existing economic literature relevant to an economic issue of interest
  • Students should be able to identify and explain relevant economic theories to an economic issue of interest
  • Students should be able to apply economic theory and evidence to an economic area of interest

General Requirements

  • A minimum of 36 hours of economics courses, of which at least 18 hours are numbered 3000 and above
  • All courses completed with a grade of C or better

Economics Electives


Any six additional courses in economics.

Department Honors Requirements


Students who wish to graduate with department honors need to fulfill the above requirements plus the following additional courses.

Note:


With those additional courses completed, department honors will be determined by major GPA at the following thresholds:

  • Distinction: 3.2
  • High Distinction: 3.5
  • Highest Distinction: 3.8
