CS 3850 - Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)

This course introduces students to the computational techniques used in the field of bioinformatics, which combines biology, computer science, and statistics to analyze biological data. Students will learn how to use programming languages such as Python and R to solve problems in genomics, proteomics, and other areas of bioinformatics. Topics to be covered include the practical use of bioinformatics tools and databases; biological data processing; algorithm development; data normalization; machine Learning in bioinformatics. Prer., CS 2020 with a “C” or better and CS 3020, 3060, or CS 3080 with a “C” or better. College of Engineering students only. Meets with CS 5850. Course typically offered: Spring
