UCCS on campus housing is home to 1,719 students and all rooms are just a short distance from campus classroom buildings and other facilities. Summit and Village at Alpine Valley Residence Halls and the Alpine Village Apartments provide several housing options for our students’ needs.

Freshmen who are under the age of 20 and have less than 30 hours of completed college coursework will be required to live in UCCS Residence Life and Housing’s residence halls. Colorado residents of El Paso county are exempt from this residency requirement; additional exemptions are listed on our website. It is highly encouraged that all freshmen explore living on the UCCS campus for a positive college transition and more successful academic and social experience. Please visit the Housing website for applications and exemption details.

All suites and apartments are fully furnished. Each accommodation includes: exterior services (trash pick-up, student and guest parking, exterior illumination, and security patrols), all utilities, high-speed internet (wired and wireless) and free laundry. Pricing for the first year residence halls also includes the All-Access meal plan, which allows a student eat in either residential dining hall as often as they may like; if you choose to live in the Alpine Village Apartments there are also meal plan options available for you at an additional charge.

All housing will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. We encourage all applicants to apply early for the best selection of room types as the housing village generally fills early. Housing contracts are available for the full academic year, spring term only as well as the summer term, so students are able to stay on campus the entire calendar year.

Disability Services is a Student Affairs office that supports students with disabilities. Students may not realize their health condition may be considered a disability. Qualified students with disabilities can request academic accommodations, such as adjustments, auxiliary aids, or other services to ensure the equal access to the educational opportunity. Areas where accommodations are provided include but are not limited to the academic environment, housing and residential life setting, the study abroad program, as well as through assistive technology. Accommodations are implemented in an effort to eliminate the impact of barriers caused by a student’s disability. Support may also be available for students who have a temporary medical condition, injury, or who are pregnant or have pregnancy related conditions.

MOSAIC Gateway Program

The MOSAIC Gateway program provides holistic admission review and learning communities for students who have faced particular academic and social challenges but show strong potential to succeed in college. Nominations to the program are made by UCCS admissions committees upon review of a UCCS application and required support documents. A limited number of students are admitted to the program on a case-by-case basis and are required to participate in the MOSAIC Gateway learning community their first semester. The learning community is designed to provide added layers of support needed to promote academic and social success for MOSAIC Gateway Scholars.

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center @ MOSAIC (LGBTQRC) is a resource for and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, questioning, queer, and allied members of the UCCS community. The LGBTQRC works to create a safe and supportive campus environment by offering educational and community-building opportunities and advocating for the needs and concerns of the LGBTQ+ community. The LGBTQRC seeks to provide multi-faceted support, create visibility, and foster a sense of community through an intersectional approach to programming and advocacy. The LGBTRC serves the community through a wide array of support services, resources, and programming. The LGBTQRC strives to improve campus climate as well as the inclusion and integration of LGBTQ+ issues campus wide.

Since 2003, the Multicultural Office for Student Access, Inclusiveness, and Community (MOSAIC) has welcomed, supported, and created opportunities for UCCS students to engage in a multicultural education and receive culturally centric holistic support. As a space that aims to be safer, students are encouraged to nurture connections and be affirmed across social identities, cultures, and experiences with specifics to race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The staff serve as a resource for students to develop leadership, academic skills, and community throughout their time at UCCS. As student advocates, MOSAIC has a cooperative relationship with the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and academic departments. Moreover, MOSAIC works with student organizations and campus departments to provide programs and events that celebrate and promote campus diversity, awareness, and leadership. The office is one of many that strive to be a resource for all students but is cognizant of the particular needs of those from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Veteran and Military Affairs (VMA)

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is dedicated to assisting all students in reaching their educational goals during and after serving our country. The VMA mission is to provide collaborative transition assistance, as well as social and academic support for all Veterans, Military and their family members.

Veteran Education Benefits

The VMA serves as the intermediary between students and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). All students utilizing VA education benefits (Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, and 1606) must contact the VMA to submit required documentation.

Students first should apply for education benefits eligibility at www.va.gov. If eligible, the VA will mail a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the student. Students should email the COE to military@uccs.edu, or hand-deliver it to the Student Veteran Center.  Chapter 31, Veteran Readiness & Employment (formerly Vocational Rehabilitation), students will meet with their VR&E counselor for program approval.  Upon approval, the VR&E counselor will send an authorization to VMA. This authorization is proof of eligibility for Ch. 31 students. Upon receipt of proof of eligibility, the student will meet with VMA staff for a New Student Intake, in which additional information will be collected and next steps will be discussed. Each semester, once enrolled, each student must submit a Request for Enrollment Verification (REV). The REV is located in the student portal under Records and Registration - Veteran Benefit Enrollment. Additional documentation may be required in certain circumstances (i.e. transferring benefits from a different school).

Students using the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Ch. 33) or Veteran Readiness & Employment (Ch. 31) who submit the required documentation prior to the due date of each semester will not incur late fines on their student accounts for any balances that will be paid by the VA. Students using any other VA education benefit (CH. 30, 35, 1606) are subject to the same payment policies as all other students and must pay their balances in full or set up a payment plan by the term due date or will be subject to late fines and service charges.

Post 9/11 GI Bill & VR&E students who fail to submit their eligibility document and REV prior to the due date of the student’s first semester will have late fees applied to their student account. Post 9/11 GI Bill & VR&E students who fail to submit their REV prior to the due date for each subsequent term will have late fees applied to their student account.

Students using veterans education benefits to pay for their tuition and fees should always monitor their student account to ensure they are aware of any fees they must pay out of pocket. Late fees will be imposed on student accounts with outstanding balances sourced from fees the VA will not pay (parking passes, e-textbook charges, housing charges, student’s portion of tuition if eligible for less than 100%). In-state residency is not automatic and the VA will only pay in-state tuition and fees; therefore, students using VA education benefits need to fill out a Tuition Classification Form at https://registrar.uccs.edu/student-forms to determine residency.

Colorado Opportunity Fund

The VA does not pay the portion of tuition that is covered by the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF). Undergraduate students must first register for COF at https://cof.college-assist.org, and then authorize COF through their student portal.

Military Tuition Assistance

The process for utilizing military tuition assistance (TA) varies per branch. If assistance is needed in utilizing TA, contact your base education center before starting the semester. Recently, there have been changes in the policy for TA, so please verify with your unit education officer or representative at your base Education Center prior to enrolling. Students using active-duty TA must submit a Sponsor Billing Request, located in their student portal under the “Student Financials (Bursar)” menu.

Military Activation

If you are active duty, National Guard, or Reserves and there is a potential for absence in courses due to military obligations, you should inform your instructor at the beginning of the semester. If you are given orders to deploy or go on temporary duty (TDY) you should discuss your options with your instructors. If you are required to withdraw from school after the first day of class, please contact the Registrar’s Office to discuss your options. You may be able to file a tuition appeal through the Registrar’s Office or submit a Mitigating Circumstances form through VMA.


VA work-study student employment is available to any VA education benefit recipient who maintains ¾-time (or more) rate of pursuit for the entire enrollment period, so long as positions are available and the applicant successfully completes the application and interview process. Interested students should contact the VMA.

Yellow Ribbon Program

UCCS participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which can help to offset the cost of non-resident tuition for veteran and dependent students using the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Please contact the VMA for more information regarding the Yellow Ribbon Program and eligibility.

Prior Credit Evaluation

The VA requires that each student veteran using education benefits submits an official transcript of their military training to the school (i.e. Joint Services Transcript, Community College of the Air Force). If the student would like their military credit evaluated for possible transfer credit, they should complete a Military Transfer Credit Evaluation Form, available at www.uccs.edu/military

VA Student Record Retention

VA students’ records must be kept for 3 years following the ending date of the last period certified to VA in accordance with Title 38 CFR 21.4209(f).

The UCCS Wellness Center offers health and mental health services to all actively enrolled students and medical insurance is not required to be seen for an appointment. The Wellness Center is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Mental Health Services

Mental Health Services staff are here to help UCCS students address personal issues, relationship issues, and issues about career decisions. When encountered, such problems may get in the way of academic achievement and overall wellbeing. Mental health services staff target these issues through short-term psychotherapy interventions. There is a nominal charge for regular sessions; crisis situations will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The Wellness Center provides the following mental health services:

  1. Individual, couples, family and group counseling to help students address mental health related issues experienced while enrolled at the university.
  2. Workshops and presentations to address various mental health-related topics like stress behaviors, sexual abuse and domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse and academic issues such as study skills, stress management skills, time management and test anxiety.
  3. Psychological and neuropsychological testing services are initiated to help identify conditions that may get in the way of academic success through the use of clinical and objective tests. The results are discussed both in person and in a comprehensive report that includes a summary of gathered data through clinical interviews, test results, full interpretation of test results, formal diagnosis, and recommendations.
  4. Consultation services for faculty, staff, students and parents to help with mental health-related challenges and questions they may have.
  5. Mental Health Services case management services help students explore and establish access to appropriate level of services in the community.
  6. SilverCloud is a digital platform that helps students address mental health related challenges through a self-paced or coached online program. Mental Health Services also offers an online screening platform for those students who would like to assess their own challenges and get a report with recommendations based on their assessment results. These online tools are all free of charge and confidential.

Health Services

Health Services staff are committed to providing affordable, quality health care and personalized health education so that students can make informed decisions regarding their health. Services include, but are not limited to, diagnosis and treatment of minor injuries and acute illnesses, administration of immunizations and flu shots, routine gynecological exams, gender affirming care, STI testing and treatment, birth control consultation, health education, nutrition consultations, mental health medication management, referrals as needed, and physical examinations. Limited lab work and medications are also available on site for patients seen at the Center. The Wellness Center prefers that you call ahead for an appointment, but there are limited same day appointments for acute care visits. Massage therapy, chiropractic services, and physical therapy are also offered in the Center at an affordable rate.

Immunization Requirement

The Colorado Department of Health and Environment requires any student who was born in 1957 or later and is enrolled for one or more classes to be immunized against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (German Measles) (MMR), or provide documented proof of immunity.

To meet this requirement, you must do one of the following:

  1. Provide an official Certificate of Immunization that documents two doses of MMR vaccine. You can obtain certified records from your former college, high school, medical provider’s office, military records, or family (certified) records.
  2. Provide MMR titer (blood test) results.
  3. Be re-immunized (can be done at the Wellness Center).
  4. Sign a non-medical exemption, or have a medical provider sign a medical exemption.

The State Health Department also requires that new students residing in on-campus university housing be immunized with the Meningococcal ACW135Y vaccine within the last 5 years.

Health Insurance

UCCS does not have a mandatory insurance requirement, but does recommend that all students consider having insurance coverage. The University does not offer a student insurance plan at this time.

The Army Reserve Officers Training Corps program is available to UCCS students.
Enrollment in the basic courses (1000/2000 level) is available to all full-time students. Enrollment in advanced courses (3000/4000 level) is open to juniors and seniors who have successfully completed all basic courses, Basic Training, or to veterans at any level. All students should be academically aligned between their ROTC level and academic level (i.e., a freshman should enroll in freshman ROTC classes). Scholarships may be available to qualified students. Completion of the ROTC program leads to a commission as an officer in the United States Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve upon graduation. A minor in Military Science is available. Interested students are encouraged to consult with the Department of Military Science at 255-3475.

National Student Exchange Program (NSE)

The National Student Exchange (NSE) program at UCCS provides accessible collegiate study away to undergraduate students at member colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Students in any major (sophomore or above) with a 2.5 minimum GPA are eligible to apply.

Founded in 1968, NSE began exchanging students between just three participating institutions.  50+ years later, NSE is a thriving consortium of over 200 participating colleges and universities, with more than 123,000 students have taken advantage of collegiate study away!

The Pre-Collegiate Support and Success Center (PCSSC) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is a K-12 outreach center comprised of the Pre-Collegiate Development Program and the STEM Education Outreach Program.

Pre-Collegiate Development Program (PCDP)

PCDP is an academic enrichment program for eligible middle and high school students.  It provides access to, and motivates low-income, first generation and military dependent students to pursue postsecondary opportunities. It is structured to ensure that students are academically prepared to enroll and be successful in post-secondary education. PCDP offer students opportunities to explore academic and career pathways: Business, Education & Human Services, Engineering & Technology, Health, and Humanities & Arts. The pathways structure student participation in the program to help them have a deeper understanding of themselves and their goals prior to completing high school. PCDP also includes opportunities to participate in summer dual enrollment courses, College Experience workshops, community engagement opportunities, mentoring and coaching, and social-emotional learning.

An important component of PCDP is the recruitment and engagement of undergraduate and graduate students from UCCS who mentor and coach PCDP participants. As UCCS students provide peer support and role-modeling to youth, they gain professional development and educational experiences that enhance their own success and engagement in the wider community on and off campus.

STEM Education Outreach (STEMEO)

STEMEO is designed to motivate and expose students to a variety of STEM activities, careers, and programs. STEM’s goal is to increase STEM preparation and engagement among students, teachers, and families. Additionally, through the pursuit of grants and donations, the program provides academic and financial support to minority and first-generation students interested in pursuing a STEM degree.

911 Emergencies

An “emergency” refers to any situation where there is an immediate danger to life or health of an individual, or individuals, on campus. Emergencies may be related to fires, chemical releases, medical problems or a wide variety of other events. For life-threatening emergencies on campus, call 911 from campus phones, or 911 from a cell phone. All other calls for police services, including crime reporting, should be made by calling (719) 255-3111.

Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness is guided by the overriding goals to protect life and secure critical infrastructure and facilities. These goals are met through the development of teaching, research, and emergency plans (both floor and building) to address disasters and infectious diseases.

Environmental Health and Safety

Environmental Health and Safety provides safety information, specialization, review, inspection, and recommendations on the plans for environmental safety on the campus. Services include the following areas: fire protection, occupational safety, laboratory safety, regulated waste disposal and others as required.

Police Operations and Communications

The UCCS Police Department maintains a full-service police operation to respond to reports of criminal acts and emergencies on campus. Police officers are certified peace officers with the state of Colorado. The UCCS Police Department is also responsible for responding to all incidents that occur on campus involving police, traffic accidents and complaints, fire prevention and protection, environmental health and safety, emergency disaster coordination and chemical materials management. The Police Dispatch Center is a full-time operation, 24/7-365 days a year. In compliance with the Clery Act, the UCCS Police Department publishes the UCCS Safety and Security Report in September of every year. Crime statistics listed in this pamphlet reflect reported crime only and are for calendar years January through December. The document is available online at https://www.uccs.edu/asr/. Office of Information Technology


All UCCS students will receive a UCCS username, which may be claimed once they are admitted to the university. The username is part of the student’s credentials for accessing Information Technology services on and off campus, and will allow students to register for classes in MyUCCS portal, use their UCCS email account hosted by Microsoft Office 365, gain access to on-campus computer labs, connect to the campus wireless network, and connect to the campus network by using the VPN connection when off campus. The Kraemer Family Library open computer lab contains Windows and Macintosh computers. Group study rooms contain two Windows computers each plus additional ports for laptop use. There is also a Parent/Child Room which has three computers and a play area designed for children. On the 2nd floor of the library are four workstations (two iMacs and two Windows Machines) which contain Flatbed Graphics Scanners. The library also contains Paw Prints Black/White and Color Laser Printers as well as Paw Prints Mobile Printing Release Stations. There are six wheelchair-accessible computers (four iMac and two Windows computers). Those needing further assistance with computers, other than what is provided in the open labs, should access the Assistive Technology Lab.

The Assistive Technology (AT) Lab is available during library open hours for students who are registered with the Disability Services Office. Students who would like training to use the available technology in the lab can contact Disability Services at (719) 255-3354, Main Hall 105, to make an appointment with the Assistive Technology Specialist. If you have questions about the lab please contact the AT Specialist at (719) 255-4202.

The Columbine Hall Open Lab contains 50 computers consisting of 8 iMacs and 42 PCs. Two of these 50 workstations have Flatbed Graphics Scanners. Paw Prints is a managed print service available to all UCCS students, faculty, and staff and is provided on computers throughout campus and online from any mobile device.

Wireless Networking

Our purpose is to provide students with a convenient, secure, and easily accessible wireless campus-wide network. Wireless networking assists in increasing accessibility to electronic resources not only in the classroom, but also throughout the campus. The UCCS wireless network is comprised of over 1,400 access points across campus, covering all major campus and housing buildings and several outdoor areas, providing access to the Internet as well as to on-campus resources. The primary wireless network is secured with WPA2 Enterprise encryption, ensuring your data sent across the network is safe. This network can be accessed using the same username and password as the rest of the campus computing resources

In an exciting partnership with the Kraemer Family Library, we are able to provide personal hotspots to current students through the library checkout system. The devices, called ClydesHotSpots, provide UCCS students with access to the internet free of charge. They are available for one-week checkouts and can be used anywhere where Sprint service (4G and LTE) is available. 


eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers, faculty and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campuses and when visiting other participating institutions. 

UCCS students, faculty and staff can use their UCCS credentials (username@uccs.edu and password) to connect to the eduroam wireless network at UCCS locations and while visiting other education institutions who are eduroam members. 

Computerized Classrooms

The OIT Department provides several classrooms across campus with computing capabilities. Some are computerized classrooms with an average of 25 computers for student use. OIT classrooms have a podium with a computer, document camera, laptop connections, and projection capabilities to enhance lectures by allowing the integration of multimedia presentations. All OIT classrooms have hyflex capabilities for local and remote participation. 

Email Policy

  1. UCCS use of email. Email is an official means for communication within the university. Therefore, the university has the right to send communications to students via email and the right to expect that those communications will be received and read in a timely fashion.

  2. Redirecting of email. A student may have email electronically redirected to another email address. If a student wishes, they may have email redirected from their official address to another email address, but at their own risk. UCCS will not be responsible for the handling of email by outside vendors or by departmental servers. Having email redirected does not absolve a student from the responsibilities associated with communication sent to their official email address.

  3. Expectations regarding student use of email. Students are expected to check their official email address on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with university communications. UCCS recommends checking email once a week at a minimum in that certain communications may be time-critical.

  4. Educational uses of email. Faculty may determine how email will be used in their classes. It is highly recommended that if faculty have email requirements and expectations, they specify these requirements in their course syllabi. Faculty may expect that students’ official email addresses are being accessed and faculty may use email for their courses accordingly.

  5. Appropriate use of student email. In general, email is not appropriate for transmitting sensitive or confidential information unless its use for such purposes is matched by an appropriate level of security.

    1. All use of email, including use for sensitive or confidential information, will be consistent with the Policy Statement on use of email posted in the policies section on the OIT Web page.

    2. Confidentiality regarding student records is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). All use of email, including use for sensitive or confidential information, will be consistent with FERPA.

    3. Email shall not be the sole method for notification of any legal action.

How We Help Students Reduce the Cost of Course Materials

At the Bookstore we have many programs in place to keep the cost of course materials as low as possible for students.

Used Books

  • Increasing Our Used Book Supply. Used books typically cost 26% less than the price of a new textbook.
  • Finding Used Books from Many Sources. The Bookstore’s goal is to have the largest possible supply of used books. We buy books back from UCCS students at the end of each semester and throughout the year and work closely with national book wholesalers as well as online sources to increase our used book inventory.

Cash Back at Buyback

  • Textbook Buyback. Throughout the year, the Bookstore hosts buyback events to pay UCCS students’ cash for books sold back to us. Students can receive up to 40% of the book price on each used book they sell back. This helps us have a plentiful stock of used books to resell for future classes.
  • Buyback for Books Purchased Elsewhere. The Bookstore will buy books back from students even if they did not purchase them at the Bookstore.
  • Buyback for Other Books. The Bookstore buys back books we don’t plan to resell on campus but can sell back to wholesalers for use at other campuses.

Textbook Pricing Policies

  • Pricing Transparency. We provide students with detailed information including prices for the books they will need for the upcoming semester. Our online price comparison feature enables students to compare our prices with competitors.
  • Competitive Pricing. Books are priced competitively, and our value proposition is intended to keep us very competitive with online competitors. Although the Bookstore strives to offer competitive pricing on all books, if you instead choose one of the vendors listed through the online price comparison at the UCCS Bookstore website, you will still contribute back the University and save yourself money and time searching online for books. 
  • No Shipping Costs on Store Pick Up Orders. Students never pay shipping charges when purchasing textbooks at the Bookstore, including online orders that are arranged for store pickup or on-campus student housing delivery.

Textbook Rental

The Bookstore textbook rental program may help you save considerably on the cost of books. The Bookstore strives to have as many titles as possible to rent. It is easy! Rent any number of books for one semester, and simply return the book(s) at the end of finals week. If you decide to keep the book and/or it is not returned, you pay the difference between the rental cost and the retail cost. You must have a student ID card and have a valid debit or credit card to rent a book. Refer to the most up-to-date terms of the Rental Agreement on the website. Ask about rental insurance!

Digital eBooks and Custom Publishing

  • Digital eBooks. The Bookstore currently offers VitalSource eBooks, they offer the most expansive catalog of digital texts, offering convenience and savings over print.
  • Customized Course Packs. The Bookstore works with faculty to produce customized materials saving students money by only using the content needed for the course.

Other Services that Benefit Students

  • Scholarships. The Bookstore provided $20,000 last year to student scholarships.
  • Jobs for Students. The Bookstore paid $185,000 to student employees this past year to assist in running the store.
    • The Bookstore develops leaders by providing Student Employee Lead positions. Student Leads are employed who have supervisory responsibilities and contribute to the Bookstore Leadership team as student employee advocates. The Bookstore also employs a Junior Buyer, a senior-level position that assists with General Merchandise management.
    • The Bookstore also offers “real world” work experiences that help develop life-long transferrable skills in customer service, fiscal responsibility, accountability, teamwork, creativity, and problem solving, among others.
  • Support for Student Groups. The Bookstore provides $100 in donations each year to every eligible student club for student-centric events.

Restocking Charge and Return Policy

A restocking fee will be charged for all books returned except in the following instances: courses cancelled by the University, textbook requirements changed by the faculty member, and courses dropped before the semester Census date. A myUCCS portal printout is required to show the course was dropped. Refer to the most up-to-date return policy on the website.

The Copy Center offers a variety of services including: Custom Printing, Oversized Printing, Color and Black & White Copying, Forms, Business Cards, Letterhead, Labels, Invitations, Name Badges, Lamination, Binding, Document Scanning, Transparencies and Faxing. These services are provided to support academic instruction, the university’s administration, and student activities.

UCCS Downtown is a campus facility located in the heart of the downtown Colorado Springs. Established in the Fall of 2018, the downtown space is a public private partnership between Nor’Wood Development Group and the University. UCCS Downtown serves as a community platform to ignite collaboration between campus stakeholders and the business, cultural and public sectors clustered downtown. This modern collaboration space houses academic classes, university and student programs as well as unique offerings for alumni and the general public. Parking downtown is not included in any of the UCCS parking permits. The most affordable parking can be found at the city parking garage located at the intersection of Colorado and Nevada Ave.

Family Development Center

The Family Development Center, a fully accredited early childhood education center, provides quality, affordable preschool programs and early care and learning for university families and the community at large. The UCCS Family Development Center offers high-quality, year-round early care and education for children 1 to 5 years old, with summer programs for elementary students. The Center maintains a staff of highly qualified and caring teachers. The activities in the classrooms are planned by professional lead teachers trained in early childhood education and child development. Lead teachers are assisted by additional university student employees as classroom aides. The Center is fully accredited through the National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA). The Center is open Monday through Friday. Rates are competitive, with discounts for students and UCCS affiliates. Child care tuition scholarships are also available for UCCS students, dependent on PELL eligibilty, to lower the cost of child care. The Kraemer Family Library supports learning, teaching and research activities of the students and faculty by providing a diverse collection of more than one million items and offering a wide array of information services. These services include a comprehensive library instruction program, electronic databases, and interlibrary loan and reference services. The Kraemer Family Library also has a wide variety of educational offerings, including informative exhibits, speakers, and interesting art collections. Access to a wide variety of electronic resources and the library’s online catalog is available through the library web page. The Library is housed in El Pomar Center. Library services hours are available on the library’s web page. Individual study carrels, computer labs, group study rooms, scanners, and copy machines are available. Special equipment and software are available to assist the hearing and visually impaired to gain access to library materials.

The library’s collection of over 1 million items includes books in both print and electronic format, journals in print and electronic format, maps, microforms, media, federal and state documents, and electronic databases. In addition, students and faculty have access to the collections of many of the state’s other academic libraries through personal visits, shared electronic catalogs, or interlibrary loan. The library’s interlibrary loan agreements also provide students and faculty with access to the collections of most of the libraries in the U.S. and other countries.

The Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences houses multiple clinics and programs operated by faculty and university clinicians where training and research are conducted, along with the Gerontology Center, Psychology labs, and Nurse Family Partnership. The academic clinics operate under the brand UCCS HealthCircle. The clinics offer a continuum of health and wellness services to UCCS faculty and staff and the community, including primary care, nutrition, physical activity engagement, health coaching, and mental and behavioral health. Services can be accessed in a single clinic or in multiple clinics with integration across the clinics to maximize efficiencies and scope of impact on health and wellness and chronic disease prevention and self-management. The University Center (UC) is the center of community activity at the university, serving students, staff, faculty, administration, and guests. The UC complements the academic programs by providing support for out-of-classroom experiences through an extensive array of cultural, recreational, social and educational programs. Guided by a student-centered philosophy valuing engagement, development, and social responsibility, the UC provides support for student success through programming, services and facilities.  Student focused services within the UC include the Office of Student Life, Student Government Association, UCCS Bookstore and Copy Center, The Scribe student newspaper, Voice of the Mountain Lion campus radio station, MOSAIC the Multicultural and LGBTQIA+ support office, Ent Credit Union service center, UC Information Desk, OneCard Student ID Services, and Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition, the UC has meeting rooms, lounges, a game room, and several dining options including Cafe 65, Clyde’s Pub, and Sanatorium Ground coffee shop. The University Center is supported by student fees that finance many of the services listed as well as repayment of the bond debt and campus student activities.  The University Center is the center for student involvement and finding community on campus.

Photo Identification Card 

It is the goal of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) to enable students, faculty, and staff to use many services on campus with their Lion OneCard (the UCCS ID card).

The Lion OneCard is the only official form of identification at UCCS and acts as the student’s school ID. The ID card is currently accessible via a mobile option with a compatible iPhone or Android, along with the  UCCS app that houses the students virtual barcode, for further information on the mobile ID and UCCS app, go to the Lion OneCard website: https://liononecard.uccs.edu/.   We are also using a virtual photo upload process and those instructions can also be found on the Lion OneCard website.  

The UCCS app/Lion OneCard  is used to access library services on campus (check out books, access several online databases and information). Students, faculty, and staff wanting to participate in activities offered by the Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center will use their OneCard ID to gain entry. The card allows students to gain access to UCCS sporting events for free, attend Art Gallery exhibits, watch plays presented by Theaterworks, and to ride on the campus shuttle, as well as our local Colorado Springs Metro Bus system.  “Clyde’s Cash” is another benefit offered to all students, and is designed to stretch your food budget. Clyde’s Cash can be purchased at the University Center Information Desk or via the UCCS app/Mobile ID (Transact) or Lion OneCard website. Clyde’s Cash can be used at different retail food and coffee locations across campus. Commuter meal plans may also be purchased at the University Center Information Desk or via the Lion Onecard website,  and added to the Lion OneCard to be used at any of the dining facilities across campus. For students living in the residence halls, the Lion OneCard is used for building access and to eat in the Dining Hall (with a valid meal plan). Off campus there are advantages too. Many local restaurants and movie theaters allow students to show their Lion OneCard (this includes the mobile ID) and they will usually receive a 10-15% discount off their meal or movie ticket.

All new UCCS students obtain their Lion OneCard during their orientation process and can be done from the comfort of their own home by going to the Lion OneCard website for instructions on how to upload a photo and then download the mobile ID and UCCS app, however if students  do not have a compatible device for the mobile ID they may obtain a physical ID, however all students and staff are expected to upload a photo ID virtually before coming to the UC Info/ID desk to obtain a physical card when the University Center Information desk is open. For more information or FAQ’s always refer to the Lion OneCard website, or when the University Center Info/ID desk is open for questions or troubleshooting. Uploading your photo and downloading the mobile ID and UCCS app is simple and easy.  Once you have the mobile ID downloaded you can track all your Clyde’s Cash, flex dollars  and/or meal plans directly from your phone.

Individuals requiring a replacement ID card must pay $15 at the time the physical card is made, but will be encouraged to download the mobile ID and UCCS app, with no charge . The Intercollegiate Athletic program at UCCS seeks to carry out its primary mission of developing exemplary student-athletes who participate in the total spectrum of university life. Exemplary student-athletes play intercollegiate sports and focus on education, good character, no substance abuse, leadership and goals. To that end, UCCS sponsors fourteen varsity sports that compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Varsity sports include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor/outdoor track, women’s volleyball, women’s softball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s baseball, and women’s lacrosse. The UCCS Mountain Lion volleyball and basketball teams compete in Gallogly Events Center which seats 1,500 spectators. It is part of the University Center in the heart of campus. The softball team plays at the Mountain Lion Field located at the North Campus on Nevada Avenue, just north of Austin Bluffs Parkway. The UCCS Baseball team plays at Mountain Lion Park. The UCCS Track and Field/Cross County teams compete in Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. The soccer and lacrosse teams play at Mountain Lion Stadium. UCCS offers athletic scholarships that are awarded on an individual basis by the head coaches of each of the varsity sports according to NCAA guidelines.

Campus Recreation Center

The expanded Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center opened in 2016 and is a LEED Gold-certified facility. Campus Recreation was joined by the Student Health Center, Mental Health Services, Nutrition Services, and Wellness Promotion, creating a state-of-the-art model for wellness among college campuses throughout the nation. Campus Recreation is available to all enrolled students, as well as faculty, staff, and alumni members. The 97,085 SF facility features four gymnasium courts, an indoor track, a 14,195-square foot fitness center with state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, two group fitness studios, a multi-purpose meeting room, a competitive sports service desk, our student outdoor learning experience center with a 27-foot climbing wall with bouldering opportunities, and an indoor aquatic center with a 25-yard lap pool, leisure pool, vortex, spa, and water slide. 

Alpine Field

Campus Recreation opened Alpine Field in the Fall of 2014, an 85,000 SF artificial turf field atop a five-story parking garage that serves intramural leagues and tournaments, club sports functions, and drop-in recreational users.

Housed within the Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center, Campus Recreation staff oversee recreational programs and services which include the following:

  • Intramural Sports: Offers a wide variety of recreational and competitive opportunities through team and individual sports, tournaments, and events; including flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, billiards, dodgeball, bowling, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, softball, and inner tube water polo.
  • Club Sports: University approved clubs sponsor instructional, recreational, and competitive programs for their members. Our current club sports include cycling, dance, equestrian, eSports, figure skating, ice hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, swimming, tennis, men’s volleyball, and women’s volleyball.
  • Fitness and Conditioning: Students have access to the fitness center as well as several programs and services designed to help increase personal fitness; including group conditioning and group fitness classes, personal training, fitness assessment, Fitness Buddies, and circuit workouts.
  • Student Outdoor Learning Experience (SOLE): Many outdoor adventures are offered including hiking, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, snowshoeing, skydiving, canoeing, rock climbing, skiing, ice climbing, and whitewater rafting. The SOLE Center is also available to help facilitate outdoor travels and explorations with a full array of outdoor equipment for rent, trip planning resources, bike, ski, and snowboard tuning, and many educational clinics.
  • Aquatics: The aquatics center is open to those looking to swim some laps or just relax in the leisure area or hot tub. Aquatic related programming includes swim lessons, aqua fitness classes, intramural aquatic events, water safety classes, kayak instruction, youth swim lessons, and dive-in movies.
  • Safety: Campus Recreation offers a variety of certification programs including, but not limited to, American Red Cross and American Heart Association CPR courses, and NOLS outdoor certification courses
  • Trails System: The UCCS Campus Recreational Trails System spans across the 548 acres of campus, currently consisting of more than 7 miles of formalized trails. 
  • RecKids: A variety of programs and services for children ages 5 and up are offered including summer camps, themed birthday parties, and Kids Night Out. Allow our qualified and engaged student staff to provide an enriching experience for your children.
  • Wellness Promotion: Offers a variety of wellness services such as massage therapy, chiropractic services, physical therapy, and peer health coaching. Wellness Promotion also hosts events like the annual Health and Wellness Fair and Barbells and Brunch.
  • Nutrition: Provides nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy for the student community. Students receive three free nutritional counseling visits with registered dietitians and additional appointments are provided at an affordable price. Dietitians also provide cooking classes and recipe ideas.

Student Activities

Student Activities creates connection through entertainment, enrichment, inclusion, and community involvement. There are multiple opportunities for students to connect with peers, learn, and build upon skills–all while developing a sense of belonging. Included in student programming are dozens of service opportunities where students can volunteer alongside community partners. Student events are planned and hosted by students - check out traditional events including Clyde’s Kickoff, Disorientation Week, Homecoming Week, Roar Daze, and Significant Speaker. In addition, weekend programs, commuter activities, concerts, and cultural experiences make up a robust calendar of events.

Student Clubs & Organizations

Students are highly encouraged to join clubs and organizations and have a menu of 200 from which to choose from. These range from social, honorary, and special interest groups to fraternity, sorority, and student media organizations. Through this experience, students enjoy the satisfaction of meeting people with similar interests and developing leadership skills. The UCCSlead program strives to build ethical, world-changing leaders. We work to serve UCCS students, staff, and faculty while simultaneously producing a positive impact on the greater Colorado Springs community. We develop and deliver leadership programs that equip attendees with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to be effective everyday leaders on campus and in the broader community. The UCCSlead program incorporates elements proven to be critical to the development of well-rounded, successful leaders. Through experiential learning, the program allows students to incorporate leadership principles into their student experience. UCCSlead is comprised of four core program areas: Game Changer, a one-day interactive leadership experience; a campus-wide Day of Service and Activism; the student-planned Student Leadership Conference; and specialized leadership workshops. https://studentlife.uccs.edu/uccsleadership

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the recognized student governance group for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The SGA creates, implements, and oversees an annual budget that is generated by the student activity fee. SGA serves as the official voice of the student body and provides a wide variety of activities and services.
