The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences prepares the graduate for professional practice in health-related settings. The program includes a foundation in general education as well as a broad understanding of health care delivery systems.
Options within the program to develop advanced specialization in a specific or chosen discipline include forensic science, sports health and wellness promotion, or nutrition. An upper division completion option is available in allied health areas such as radiation technology, dental hygiene or respiratory therapy for students with associate degrees or certificates in these areas.
Learning Outcomes

Nutrition Option—BS in Health Sciences
This program has been granted Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. Students may earn the credentials of a Registered Dietitian by completing an accredited academic program, completing an Internship at a CADE approved location after the academic program, and by passing a national exam. Verification Statement
To receive a verification statement for completion through the Didactic Program in Dietetics, a student must take a minimum of 16 credits at the 3000 level or above, to include the following courses through the Department of Health Sciences, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and have earned academic credit for the remaining course work listed on the Verification Completion Checklist. If not taken at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the equivalent course to HSCI 3920 Nutrition Science and Community must have been completed through an approved/accredited U.S. or Canadian academic program. Individuals with International Degrees

Allied Health Completion Option—BS in Health Sciences
An upper division completion option is available in allied health areas such as radiation technology, dental hygiene, emergency medical or respiratory therapy. Students must complete a certificate or an associate’s degree in an allied health area from an accredited program other than UCCS for the 31 credit hours to be applied to the degree. Students then complete the health science program listed below in order to be awarded a bachelor’s degree, the BS in Health Sciences. General Education Course Requirements

Medical Laboratory Science/Med Tech Option - BS in Health Sciences
The clinical internship provided in the UCCS Medical Laboratory Science program, is in conjunction with the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Students are required to attend an eleven week student laboratory in Omaha, Nebraska, and will then return to Colorado Springs for the remaining nine months of clinical training at affiliate hospital laboratories. After the completion of the clinical year, students are eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (formerly Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist). The MLS (ASCP) certification allows individuals to practice/work in hospital laboratories throughout the United States. General Education Course Requirements

BIOL 2010 & 2020 and BIOL 3020 are courses required due to prerequisites for other courses at UCCS - recommended but not required by UNMC.
