The Department of Health Sciences offers a program leading to the degree of Master of Sciences with options in Forensic Science, Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, and Health Promotion. Graduate students pursue coursework in these areas of study and related disciplines (biology, chemistry, psychology, and sociology), providing the students with a diverse integrated curriculum of study.

Forensic Science Option - MS in Health Sciences
Two emphases of study in the graduate program in Forensic Science are offered: Forensic Toxicology and Criminal Justice. Application Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited four year college or university
- Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- Undergraduate major GPA of 3.0 or above
- Applicants must submit Parts I & II of the UCCS Graduate Application Form at: web.uccs.edu/gradschl/app
- Signed in-state tuition form
- Three letters of reference
- Selective service form (if applicable)
- Copies of all OFFICIAL transcripts
- Application fee of $60
- Completion of GRE (scores submitted to UCCS)
Forensic Toxicology
The Forensic Toxicology curriculum is designed to meet the academic requirements for certification as a Forensic Toxicologist. The capstone course is a two semester Advanced Analytical Methods course that exposes students to both the theory and practical application of trace analysis. Graduates of this combined emphasis program are well educated and equipped to pursue advancement in careers in law enforcement at the local/state/federal level. This option provides graduates with the skills and training required for advancement to supervisory roles as crime scene investigators, and the tools to be an effective expert witness. Additionally, they are well suited for senior level positions with the Department of Corrections, as well as at the Office of the Medical Examiner. The curriculum consists of three required courses in each discipline with research options dictating the completion of the coursework. The interdisciplinary nature of this degree option provides students with a broad view of all aspects of criminal investigation: legal, scientific and law enforcement. Sports Medicine Option - MS in Health Sciences
The Master of Science Degree in Sports Medicine provides the coursework and practical experience necessary to obtain advanced knowledge and skills in the discipline of Sports Medicine. The degree specifically offers the opportunity for those who are Certified Athletic Trainers to build upon their theoretical and clinical competencies beyond those gained at the undergraduate level. The program knowledge and practical experience allow the student to further develop theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, increase their ability to critically evaluate current sports medicine related literature, and obtain the ability to conduct clinically relevant sports medicine research. Opportunities are available to gain experience within the University Intercollegiate Athletic Programs, Secondary School Interscholastic Setting, Olympic Training Centers and Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy Clinics. There are three tracks: thesis track, project track, Comprehensive Exam track. Program Prerequisites
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university
- BOC for athletic training certified (ATC) or eligible by semester of admission
- or equivalent certification, for example: Canadian Certified Athletic Therapist
- Undergraduate Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

HSCI 505 Obesity and Weight Management Sports Nutrition Option - MS in Health Sciences
The Master of Science degree in Sport Nutrition is designed to prepare registered dietitians (RDs or RD eligible) and/or nationally and internationally recognized nutritionists. Non-RD students with a strong dual background in exercise science and nutrition are also eligible to apply to this program. Graduates are prepared to take leadership roles in providing nutrition services to high school, collegiate, recreational, elite, and professional athletes and active individual of all sports and genders. This degree prepares students for the Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) Examination offered to RDs through the Commission for Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). This program also aims to provide international experiences and collaborations through a newly created network of Professionals in Nutrition for Exercise and Sport (PINES). The degree offers students three degree options: thesis, project , and Comprehensive Exam. Health Science Requirements (7 credits total)

The Master of Sciences degree in Health Promotion is designed to prepare students for advanced study and practice in Health Promotion related areas. Graduates are prepared to take leadership roles in designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs in various public and private/work site agencies at local, state and national levels. The Health Promotion professionals trained in this program will possess the skills and knowledge to affect lifestyle choices and improve a person’s community or organizational health and wellness. Extra emphasis will be directed towards improving health and wellness in work site settings. Health Sciences Requirements (9 credits total)
