A Bachelor of Arts in Economics prepares students for a wide range of employment opportunities in both the public and private sector, and for graduate studies in law and business. Interested students are encouraged to contact the department advisor or the department chair. Information is available on the department website at http://www.uccs.edu/~economics/.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students demonstrate knowledge of economic ideas and models.

  • Students are able to apply economic ideas and models and use economic data.

  • Students are able to develop an economic analysis of an issue of interest.

General Requirements

  • A minimum of 36 credit hours of economics courses, of which at least 18 are upper division (3000-level or higher)
  • All core courses completed with a grade of C or better
  • A 2.0 grade point average in all courses counting towards the major
  • A total of 30 credit hours of C grade or better in major courses

Departmental Honors

Students who wish to graduate with department honors must complete the following courses in addition to the given degree requirements.

With these three additional courses completed, department honors will be determined by major GPA at the following thresholds:

  • Distinction: 3.2
  • High Distinction: 3.5
  • Highest Distinction: 3.8

Course Requirements


With the exception of ECON 4990, each of the required courses should be completed prior to senior year.

Course Recommendations


The Economics Department assigns faculty advisors to all its majors and minors. Faculty advisors can help students choose classes that are of interest and value to them.  It is recommended that students see their advisor before selecting classes in the major or minor.
