CJ 3620 - Cyber Law

3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)

Does cyberspace require its own set of laws? Has our legal system kept up? This course explores contemporary legal issues involving computers, the internet, and related technologies. The course focuses on net neutrality, personal privacy, freedom of speech, hacking, copyright issues, cyberstalking, and cyberwar. Special attention is also paid to jurisdictional challenges inherent in civil and criminal cases involving internet-related crimes, torts, and disputes. Finally, the course covers the legal framework that governs cyberspace, including principles of federalism and the role of administrative agencies, the courts, legislatures, the executive branch, private industry, and computer users.
